Third Graded Assignment: Annotated Bibliography
As you noted in the Library Tutorial, there is a wealth of information available in the traditional formats of books, journals, and newspapers. UMUC's library subscribes to many databases that contain such resources, which are available in electronic format. For this assignment, you will do a search of UMUC's databases for three articles in scholarly (peer-reviewed) journals on your chosen topic. In addition to the library tutorial you completed as the first graded assignment, you should review Research Skills Tutorial, Module 6: Finding Articles (http://www.umuc.edu/library/tutorials/research/mod6.shtml).
A good place to start your search is the UMUC Library's Guide to History Resources, http://libguides.umuc.edu/content.php?pid=10993&sid=73579. Click the U.S. History tab along the upper part of the screen. You will find a list of databases available to you from the library for research. As you need to find scholarly articles from peer-reviewed journals, the two best databases in the Most Recommended Resources list are JSTOR and Academic Search Complete.
Complete the following in your annotated bibliography for each article:
• Provide a complete citation (as you would include it in your bibliography) for the site, including the URL and your date of access. Note that the required style for this class is Turabian/Chicago. For an example of what elements to include in your citation, go to Course Content and review the Brief Primer to Citing Sources in Chicago Humanities Style (B=bibliography). In the Sample Citations section, look under Online Journal Articles and note that you need to provide the name of the database you found the article in and your date of access.
• Summarize the main point(s) of the article and how they pertain to your research topic.
