HCS455 Complete course Week-1 to 5

HCS455 Week-1 Key Components of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act

Write a 525-word paper that identifies and describes at least 8 key components of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), sometimes referred to as Obamacare. It may help to think about the following bullet points when determining what to identify and describe for your paper.

  • Type of individuals who will seek coverage
  • The benefits and drawbacks of the PPACA
  • The services covered or not covered under PPACA
  • Tax subsidies individuals may receive
  • Impact on the Medicaid and Medicare programs

Format your paper according to APA guidelines.

HCS455 Week-2 Policy Process Proposal

Policies are constantly reviewed and considered to help improve the federal, state, or local health care systems. Each one has the potential to affect each of us on a daily basis, so careful consideration must be given when policies are proposed. It is important to understand the process of how a topic eventually becomes a policy.

Choose a health care topic for which a policy might be created. Be sure to look ahead and choose a policy topic that will be suitable for both parts of this assignment, due in Weeks Three, Four, and Five. Your topic should be rather narrow. For example, "women's health" would be too broad, but a policy to encourage women to get mammograms would be narrow enough to apply the policy creation concepts discussed later in the class.

Submit a 350-word proposal for your chosen policy that explains your initial thoughts.

Obtain faculty approval for the policy that you have selected and on which you will complete your assignment for Weeks Three, Four, and Five.

Format your assignment according to APA guidelines.

HCS455 Week2 Historical Perspective Medicare Presentation

Choose from the following:
• Presentation
• Brochure
• Video/documentary
• Another medium approved by your instructor
Address these points in your assignment:
• Discuss the health and societal issues that had an impact on the development of the Medicare/Medicaid health care policy.
• What was the objective to be accomplished in forming a policy of Medicare/Medicaid?
• Identify the various stakeholders involved in the creation of this policy.
• Focus on a level of government (federal, state, or local) and the role and function it had in the process of implementing the policy.
Format your assignment according to APA guidelines.

HCS455 Week-5 Legislator Handout - expand health insurance coverage

Resource: Policy Process Proposal assignment from Week Two (To expand health insurance coverage).

Imagine you feel it is important to meet with your legislator to obtain his/her support on your policy so it can be presented for approval. Your legislator has little time and needs a brief, concise overview of what the policy entails and why he/she should support its passage.

Create an informational tool that you will hand to a legislator about the pros of your selected policy to convey a recommended course of legislative action to change a public policy that contributes to the greater good of health care.

Some examples of such tools might include:

  • One-pager
  • Flyer
  • Brochure
  • Flowchart
  • Graph
  • Pictogram
  • Word cloud
  • Be creative!

Be sure to keep the following in mind:

  • You are convincing your legislator of the validity and necessity of your policy proposal.
  • When you are providing your legislator with your information tool, be aware of the impact that special interest groups and other politics will have on the legislator's decision. These factors will have an impact on the way your proposal is received by the legislator.
  • Consider the relationship of government to the creation of policy and describe how your legislator's support will help the creation of the policy for which you are lobbying in your resource.

Use appropriate references so your legislator may understand why he/she should support the potential policy.
